MEET OUR TEAM

 

Leslie Mullens

Founder & Senior Strategist

With 20 years of expertise to share, Leslie is considered a leader in strategy and organizational development. She has developed and facilitated hundreds of strategic planning engagements and workshops. Seen as an expert in change management, cultural transformation, and cross-sector collaborative problem solving, her focus is in corporate, government, and nonprofit communities. Prior to founding PlayBook, Leslie led Cisco Systems’ global B2B Ecommerce strategy team. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA, is past president of the Rotary Club of Kahului, and recently served on Hawaii’s Small Business Regulatory Review Board.  Leslie is an Omidyar Fellow in Leadership Development.

 

Jennifer Kogan

Office Assistant

Jennifer is our main point of contact for clients concerning any administrative issues and scheduling needs. She holds bachelors degrees in biology and environmental studies and has worked in conservation and education. We recruited Jennifer for her excellence in project and client management and for her background in nonprofit program coordination. She joins us at many of our strategic planning workshops and is responsible for post-workshop documentation.

 

 

 

Robert Kawahara, CPA

Finance & Tax Strategy Consultant

As managing member at Kawahara + Company, CPAs, Robert is responsible for all of PlayBook’s outsourced financial reviews and consulting.  He provides our clients with tax strategy and planning, regulatory compliance counsel, audits, bookkeeping, tax preparation, equity improvement, corporate funding strategy, and fiscal management plans. He also serves as one of our trainers for fiscal literacy seminars. Robert is a director of the Maui Chapter of the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants, and recently served as president of the Rotary Club of Kahului.

 

 

Keith Ranney

Trainer, Video Production

Keith is the amazing organizational and motivational force behind the Maui Film Festival’s volunteer management success story. Founder of The Art of Volunteering, Keith recruits, trains, and supervises more than 600 volunteers annually for the festival. He leveraged his skills with MFF to launch an outsourced volunteer management service for nonprofits and consults with organizations across the country. Keith works with PlayBook as a trainer and as one of our consulting team.

 

 

Kathleen Buenger

Facilitator

Kathleen is one of our on-call facilitators, specializing in large groups with disparate views.  She’s worked with us with the Department of Labor & Industrial Relations and the Department of Agriculture on Workforce Development projects and is on PlayBook’s Advisory Hui for new business development.

 

 

Tanyia Kandohla

Brand Strategist, Marketing Fulfillment

Tanyia is the founder of Pathfinder, a brand management consultancy. Based in Sausalito, California, Tanyia is our go-to resource for corporate brand strategy. Her strength lies in repositioning, building brands, and creating inspiring brand interactions/connections that lock in consumer loyalty. Former Vice President at Foote, Cone & Belding, she crafted the branding campaigns of more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies like Nike, Elizabeth Arden, Levis, and Intel. Her qualitative research is second to none, customized to the client’s vision and challenges.  Her marketing focus starts with strategy and ends with in-depth implementation management - from social media to nationwide buys.

 

Alexis Dascoulias

Facilitator

Alexis is one of our on-call facilitators, specializing in leadership development, team building, and youth programs.  As founder of Camp CenterStage, a “leadership through performing arts” youth camp, Alexis is masterful at curriculum development, operations/productivity improvement, and FUN!

 

 

 

 

Tom Pierce

Trainer, Nonprofit Legal Issues Consultant

Tom is Maui’s top land conservation and nonprofit attorney (www.MauiLandLaw.com), working with such organizations as Public Access Trails Hawaii, Maui Coastal Land Trust (he was the founding president), and Paul, Johnson, Park, and Niles. We work with Tom when new groups want to go through the nonprofit development and tax exemption process, when our nonprofit clients seek legal counsel, and when we offer our Nonprofit Legal Issues training seminars.

 

 

 

Della Nakamoto

Trainer, Business & Nonprofit Insurance Consultant

Della is our top trainer and consultant for commercial and nonprofit insurance issues. Commercial Account Executive for Atlas Insurance Agency, Della is a key resource in understanding risk and liability, and how best to protect your business and team.

 

 

 

 

Gordon Gillis

Workplace Safety Solutions Consultant

Gordon partners with PlayBook clients who need guidance in developing workplace safety policies, processes, and in shifting organizational culture to support occupational safety. He holds a Masters degree and is a Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He has served as Director of Occupational Health & Safety, Director of Training, and Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Officer (USA and Canada).
